kadazan/dusun (sabah) and bunun (taiwan), are we from the same ancestry?

Theory 1: kadazan might have originated from taiwan
i first heard of this from a friend of mine who went to taiwan before. he said that the culture and way this group of people dress is so damn similar to the kadazan. but back then i didnt think so much about it.

then another friend stated something similar to me last night, am not sure how he came across that though.

when i google about this a bit, i found out that lately a number of people have been pointing out that the bunun community in taiwan have alot in common. their assumption is that the bunun might have migrated to borneo and settled down, and some how called them self dusun (before the term kadazan exist). some says the dusun migrated to taiwan, but i dont think so. there's a higher chance that the bunun community might have the navigation and shipping technology back then than the other way round. everyone knows chinamen (or rather lets just say chinese) have remarkable navigation technology and travels well during that era.

also, there's a thread up in sabah forum that's discussing about this topic

i extract part of it here:

Theory 2: kadazan from indo-china (wait, taiwan IS indo china, isn't it? ah..nvm)
It is not exactly clear from where the Dusunic tribes have come, and when they settled in the north of Borneo. More recent archaeological evidence places the origin of the Dusunic people in the area that was known as Indo-China. Some 10,000 yeas ago, during the last ice-age and when Borneo was still part of a wider landmass, called the Sundaland, those people could have moved by toot to these parts of the world. It is also possible that they have moved trough Laos, Vietnam and the Philippines, and a few thousand years ago arrived by sea. Language affinities, and similarities of customs, dresses and religious belief system make both assumptions possible.

oh, and i'm pretty sure i read somewhere saying kadazan comes from mongolia. couldnt find the link to that though.

theory 3: i havent figure this out! haha..

p/s: i havent check all the links up there, so if some of them isn't working, my bad, please accept my apology. this is a kinda rush up post, i shall do some more further reading later

  1. Actually I think these Taiwanese are from a common ancestor, though overwhelming proof suggests that the people of Borneo are from the Austronesian linguistic group, a group which shares a common ancestor with Filipinos, Papua New Guineans, Pacific Islanders and Australian aboriginals.

  4. not confirm, that is only typing proof. need real proof. when i see the videos of the dance, its not even 90% similar to the kadazan dusun race. so yeah, even the clothing are way so different. and when day say, alisan "might" mean kadazan. but after minutes of finding the word, nothing came out. so yeah. want proof that kadazan dusun and murut are'nt from taiwan. here. i got this from wikipidea

    The Nunuk Ragang legend
It was said that the Kadazan/Dusun people originated from a place called ‘Nunuk Ragang’ which is roughly located at Tampias, where three rivers, Liwagu, Takashaw, and Gelibang meet to the east of Ranau and Tambunan. Nunuk is a Dusun word for ‘Bayan Tree’, Ragang comes from the word ‘Aragang’ which means red. Nunuk look like giant that provide good natural shelters. It’s tree top was estimated to be able to shelter under seven Kadazan/Dusun huts (a hut measure 12 by 20 feet).[2]

  8. ow also, this might come handy...
we know malaysia is a hot humid country, so the people would develop melanin on their skin compare to any colder climate countries...
like the bajau, they have darker skin complxion, but not kadazandusun...
yeah maybe this day, they're getting darker...but surely kadazandusun people have skin complexion which is more yellowish from their past colder area of living, which i wpuld presume in china or in taiwan...

  10. Hi Im Jerry from KK..sorry for my broken english. But i have to tell you guys this. Recently i've heard my boss stories when he went to friends relatives house in Alihsan, Taiwan for burial ceremony. They stayed there for 1 week. The old folks there were very happy and grateful when they know my boss origin. They said..their ancestor were from Borneo (Sabah) long time ago and shows him the direction of that land. And sure its is Borneo/Sabah. They have quite similar apperance to Kadazan, even the traditional costum dress also the same.. they has their own Sumazau dance version and the funny things is, they also practice the 'makan sirih' things. Not a coincidence right? So, that will make A-mei the most popular kadazan's right? Because she is also from Alishan..no wonder I saw her wearing the black custom dress in he past video clips..So, why don't you guys start googling now?^^
