uni life prologue: orientation

woah. looks like a new chapter in life has just begun. i can proudly say that my tahap 'keskemaan' has decreased! i've just learnt how to ponteng. okay i know truanting is not good, but well, sometimes we just have to be such a little devil. i mean, come on! who cares about kuliah subuh/ moral ?! at this point of time, we need our precious beauty sleep more than anything else, no? well, there's other occasion where we 'escaped' but lets just dop it and forget about them .

honestly, orientation was not as bad as i imagine it to be. it's actually quite relax. no ragging no shouting and such. well, maybe a lil bit. but at least they treat us like human. and our schedule ain't that pack. the only obvious down side is the fact that there's so many registration to be done. why cant we do everything at one time? haiz.. such waste of time. and i messed up my own timetable. have to reschedule tomorrow.

i kindda like the campus 'mood'. but the fact that i'm now a uni student is a bit distrubing. haha! i feel too young to be doing my degree! dorm, is small though. personally i prefer matrix dorm, except the washroom part. food wise, better than matrix, but i'm still not familiar with the pricing though.. hmm.. 

well, i haven't met my roommate yet. i hope they are a bunch of great people that i can get along with. i've met some of my housemate though. 12 people in a house, 3 rooms. a bit over crowded though. im starting to worry about my laundry..huhu.. 

i'm kindda glad that i have familiar faces to hang around with. so orientation was pleasant. since they provide us food and transport, everything goes quite well and smooth. but it takes ages to q for the bus. so far, i've met a group of pleasant people :) i hope i can get along and work well with them. oh, and i kindda like my course structure. i hope i can cope tho.

tomorrow will be a new day, new week. classes with begin. i hope i dont loose my bearing though. anyway, all the best to all new mahasiswa and mahasiswi, wherever you are. i wish all of you the best!

Hokkien is:

Note: The Hokkien we hear today may have "evolved" from its original form 2,000 years ago, but it still retains the main elements of the Tang Dynasty Language.

2. Hokkiens are the surviving descendants of the Tang Dynasty -- When the Tang Dynasty collapsed, the people of the Tang Dynasty fled South and sought refuge in the Hokkien ( Fujian ) province. Hence, Hokkien called themselves Tng-lang (Tang Ren or People of the Tang Dynasty) instead of Hua Lang (Hua Ren).

3. Hokkien has 8 tones instead of Mandarin's 4. Linguists claim that ancient languages tend to have more complex tones.

4. Hokkien retains the ancient Chinese pronunciation of "K-sounding" endings (for in stance, Hak Seng (student), Tua Ok (university), Thak Chek (read a book/study) -- the "k" sounding ending is not found in Mandarin.

5. The collection of the famous "Three Hundred Tang Dynasty Poems" sound better when recited in Hokkien/Teochew if compared to Mandarin.

6. Consider this for a moment: Today, the Hokkien Nam Yim Ochestral performance still has its roots in ancient Tang dynasty music. Here's the proof: The formation of today Nam Yim ensemble is typically seen in ancient Tang dynasty paintings of musicians.

More Astonishingly:

Although not genetically-related, Hokkiens, Koreans and Japanese share many similar words (which are different from Mandarin).

That's because Hokkien was the official language of the powerful Tang Dynasty whose influence and language spread to Japan and Korea (just like Latin – where many words were borrowed by the English, French, Italian, etc). To all Mandarin-speaking friends out there -- do not look down on your other Chinese friends who do not speak Mandarin – whom you guys fondly refer to as "Bananas". In fact, they are speaking a language which is much more ancient & linguistically complicated than Mandarin.

Keep in mind that Mandarin is just:

1. A Northern Chinese dialect (heavily influenced by non Han Chinese) that was elevated to the status of National Language by Sun Yat Sen for the sake of China’s national unity.

2. Mandarin was never spoken by your proud, imperial Tang Dynasty ancestors. It was probably spoken by the Northern (Non-Han) Jurchen, Mongols and Manchu minority. Start speaking the language of your ancestors today." 

so, what  do you guys think of that? just for the record, i can hardly understand hokkien. anyone care to teach me some? so much so for being chinese (with hokkien blood), i suck at chinese (including mandarin, but still acceptable),  there's so many room left for improvement .. but i need help..

PSPM is over, Holiday gonna be over and MUET still on

it's been ages (2 months i think?) since i last update my blog. well, to be frank, i was lazy; well, not to mention that i was also busy

anyway, PSPM (peperiksaan semester program matrikulasi) was over about 2 weeks ago. to sum it up, PSPM gave us heart attack. maths paper 1 was quite easy, in fact, it's easier that UPS, coz i got a lousy D+. haha

on the contrary, paper 2 was damn hard. i dont even . understand what the question wants me to do. oh well.

chemistry was the killer paper. it started with paper 2, and the killer wave hit us like a tsunami.

even question 1(a) was a killer. it was extreamly simple: balance the equation. but, there was an unknown. let me give you an analogy:

HxO + ____ will produce ________

x can be 2 or 3 right?

but of cause it was not a common equation like h20 or h30..so, i didnt waste my time answering that 1 mark Q. anyway, the whole paper was rather hard. well, if the straight A1 scorers (esp chinese) can go back and collect buckets and buckets of tears, then it must be darn hard for us average students, huh? what i'm trying to say is, the top scorers also find it hard. after going through the hellish paper 2, i think everyone would say paper 1 was easy.

although it's not THAT easy, but still, much much more easier than paper 2.

anyway, if you were in kml ( or any other matriculation colleges, i assume experience the same phenomena) you will see the worst science students mood. everyone was walking moodily, as if the dementors (read harry potter if you dont know what is that) has just suck their life out of them. the dorm was damn quiet, people pulling long and sour faces, sulking and.. well.. to cut it short, it was an ugly sight.

biology was the only paper that was obviously designed by sane people. it was average. not easy not difficult, just average. so, i must say, thank you to whoever they are.

then, after the PSPM is over, I had to face and sit for my MUET (malaysian university english test). i was edgy and nervous for the speaking test. but thank god everything when well. it wasn't THAT bad really. but i dont know how good or how bad i did. i'm just praying for the best.

thanks to the MUET speaking test, i had to stay back in college extra long. thank god all my roommates had to stay back too, so i had company. so after the speaking test, i was delirious with joy and really look forward to coming back to kk. it feels great!

well, holiday is coming to an end. i will be going back to KML on friday, and sit for MUET listening, reading and writing test on saturday. then on monday, it will be the beginning of a new semester in KML.

p/s: the water problem ain't that bad anymore. water tank comes to kml everyday, so we dont need to go water hunting. even though only the ground floor have water, we really appreciate that ^^

UPS. H1N1, fever and quarantined. Water problem to be solved

it's been one month since i blog. *sigh* lots of things happened during this one month. so brief update is on the way

1. UPS result is out. it sucks though. >.< i got B for bio and chem, D+ for maths and A for English. my pointer was like 2.4? thanks to my maths. i think chemistry was okay, but was rather disappointed with bio. i didnt expect an A, but i expect higher that B la. as for maths, all i cared was that i passed that subject. did i mentioned before what happened to me during maths paper? well, to cut the long story short, i was zombie-dized on that day. i had severe mental block. i cant even recall what does 'real roots' means. i did partial raction halfway and then i went blank and dont know how to do the next step (i got full mark for similar Q during quiz though) it's not like i dont know what to do, i just cant recall how to do. let me give you an analogy. i'm hungry, so i'm supposed to eat right? so in this situation, i get the food, put it in my mouth. then i got blank. i know im supposed to chew and swallow, but i cant recall how to chew my food. that was how i felt when i did partial fraction. and there was question about squaring both side. so i square, but i didn't bother to square the numbers in the modulus. what i'm trying to say here is that, i was not careless, i knew what mistakes i did without knowing it was all mistakes. meaning to say, i did the mistakes consiously. will anyone tell me what could possibly be the reason for that to happen? but i'm glad that i got an A for english, although it's not taken into consideration in our pointer. more than half my class got E. *sigh*

2. there was at least 3 positive cases of h1n1 in my college, and recently there's a new case in my block, which makes the total cases to be 4. due to these positive cases, the whole college was quarantined, but not closed. so we were all 'prisoned' in the college for like 2 weeks. woah.. that was long you know! and since there's this h1n1 out break, every got sick. its like the whole college is sick. everyone will either experience cough, flu, fever, sore throat, or somekind of sickness. as for me, i had the worst fever experience plus flue and cough. i had fever for 5 days. it started on tuesday, which i ignored. by tuesday night my temperature rose to i think around 40 degree. the next day, though it subsided, i went to the GH. they checked my temperature and it was 39.3. i was showing h1n1 syntoms u know! Thank god i was not quarantined. the doctor acutally prescribed me 2x4 paracetamol a day! my gosh, crazy oh! then i got 4 days MC until saturday. when i first saw it, i was like, wth? 4 days? common man!! by friday i tried to get up and attend class coz my fever subsided but i could only manage 1 hour of class. by noon my head was spinning, very dizzy and i wanted to throw up. so i had to go to the GH again. *Sigh* my parents was so worried that they paid me a visit, although we were quarantined. well, how to get well eh? imagine i was already that dead sick and there i was, water hunting and doing my laundry at 11 pm. (dont tell my mum that, she'll kill me)

3. last but not least, i'll talk about water problem (i have to leave after this, got MUET practice). anyway, yeah.. we didnt have water since sunday 2 weeks ago. so we had to go water hunting and q for hours and hours for water. but lately things have been slightly better. at least the water tank at the ground floor got water, so no need to hunt too far. the good news is that recently, this mr puad sumthing, the timbalan menteri pelajaran, visited our college. and he promised to solve our water problem in one month's time. well, lets just see how true is that. it's left to be seen. well, i have to leave now.

english tutorial and jokes

yo again people. today is a happy day for me. one thing i like about tuesday is because it's the most relaxed day in college. on top of that, my 2 hours of moral class was cancelled, hurray!! so, my tutorial mates and i went and had our early lunch at 11, and before 12 we were already in the library. and yippy! since i brought my laptop to study with me (my lecture note is in my laptop maa), i took the opportunity to try the internet out. and alas! i got online for the first time since i came here. the wifi was seriously not bad, well.. there's nothing much to do online also ma.. so it was not bad. and guess what, i got hooked up online and forgotten about studying.. ahaha.. so much so for carrying the laptop with me in my giant laptop bag around the campus. but i guess it's worth it, coz i got to get online and posted the 2nd june post :)

anyway, i HEARD that there will be somekind of talk about MUET (malaysia university english test) tonight at 8pm. *sigh* i plan to study and suddenly now i have to attend this talk.. why cant they do it on some other days? i have maths quiz tomorrow and biology quiz the next day people, and i'm still far from finishing my revision.. huhuh

anyway.. there are some jokes i came across in the past few weeks that i think is worth sharing

L: if you eat papaya continuously for 2 weeks, your boobs will become bigger ( or did she say breast? nevermind.. just get the idea)

Me: *what? burning? er..okay whatever is she talking about*
L: girls, you can go siram the bunga (water the flower)
Me: *ahhhh! now i get it!*

p/s: you guys get the joke ka? i think most of the class didnt get the joke.. haha, they are not witty enough ba!

hint: the way the firemen put out fire is similar to how guys do their business :) that's why the washroom is said to be burning.

S2: oh, you mean the high spirited one? habis spirit already maybe.

The 1st Month In Matrics The Unedible COW Experience

ahhh! it feels so damn good to own your own laptop, especially when you are away from home. nevermind the fact that i dont have internet connection is this sad (well, a little sad) place. at least i can express myself by blogging and thus avoid myself from going insane.

today i went to the cafe to get myself some dinner, which i'm currently eating. when i first saw this particular meat i wonder what is it, coz it does some how smells like lamb. so i asked the kakak at the cafe, and the kakak at the canteen say its COW. well, at least she knows 'cow'.. but the cow i'm eating, is not edible, which means i stopped eating it now. it's so darn tough i wonder how on earth do they *** actually swallow that thing down their throat? hah! so much so for expecting a good dinner, wasting my RM 1.50 only!

***i think u guys know what i mean.

anyway, this is the 4th week i'm here, and you can consider it the 2nd month i'm here, in KML. which stands for Kolej Matrikulasi Labuan aka Labuan Matriculation College. well i'm assuming that you know why havent i be posting for the past about 1 month. obviously i was too busy preparing for matrics, and once i entered here, i'm totally cut out of the world. except the fact that i have a handphone, thank god!

so well, what have been happening for the past 3 weeks? 1st week we had orientation aka minggu pengurusan pelajar baru (mppb). it wasn't as bad as i expected. except the fact that we have to "compress" ourself in order to fit in the 2.2k students plus god knows how many facililators into the suffocating hall. the hall was an earthly hell and oven to us, the aircond didnt help much in anyway. i had to go against my principle of 'dont shower late at night' coz it is just pointless to shower if you were going to sweat like dog in the hall. i ended up showering at 11pm every night. my mum would kill me if she knows that! and we have to wake up at 4 am, rush, run, shoove food down our throat and our stomach, forget about shower and sit for hours and hours until our ass gone flat for 5 continuous days. by the end of it, we were like dead log and really looking forward for the outing day on saturday and sunday. enough said about the orientation week, at least it wasnt as bad as i expected. here's the link to the college blog on mppb, you should check it out.. really interesting.. well, at least the photography was great. http://www.kml.matrik.edu.my/mppb-2009/

the first week of lecture and tutorial, i must admit that i do experience a little culture shock here and there. i felt like i'm in oversea and in college!! yeah, indeed i am in college. it's kindda fun to watch people rush into the theatre-like lecture hall, grab their sit and listen for 1 hour. then rush to another tutorial room and to the next lecture and so on. and the fun is doubled when you actually experience it :)

that is during the day. and then at night, people going to the library, studying, full or high spirit and ethusiasm. there was even a LONG Q! i was totally speechless! i think the most powerful culture shock i experience here is due to the fact that everyone is studying, or at least pretend to. i must say it puts some pressure on me! i do enjoyed the 1st week of lecture and tutorial.

then second week came, and more tutorial work comes in. and lecture is going on a fast pace and biology is driving me nuts. god, this is only the 2nd week of lecture and i'm already struggling like this! tutorial work does gives me some headache, especially when i cant seem to just get it right, how frustrating! and alast! the friday came, and i was more than happy when the chemistry lab class was cancelled. and double the joy people, because i finally get to travel back to kk on friday!! well.. i must end this post here, because it's time for me to get back to work. so till tomorrow or the next post comes in, then i'll post about something more interesting.

hi all, sorry for not updating for a long time. it has been like what? 3 weeks? *sigh*
well, nothing INTERESTING came up, so nothing to post lo..

anyway, i was clearing my stuff (still, 1 week oredy) and i found a love letter from my darling.
it's interesting, and put a wide smile on my face.. guess who is it from? that person wrote the following :

anyway, in case you all are wondering why i didnt update, the reasons are as follows:

7. ..... i run out of reasons.....

anyway.. on 17th april, i went to piza hut.. and the person serve us (my dad and i) pizza, lasagna together with cheese powder, the one in the lil small plastic bowl.. so we had our meal and chit chat, happened that we didnt finish half the cheese powder. suddenly, one of the 'waiter' came to our table, grab that lil plastic bowl of cheese powder and gave it to the person few tables away. can you believe that? my dad and i just look at each other, speechless. i cant make up my mind if that was funny and amusing or shocking and annoying. yeeeee! so not hygienic oh!! it's not like coffee shop! can you imagine those people on the other table enjoying my dad and my amylase enzyme? fross. poor guy. and... my dad went straight to the washroom when we came back.. you can guess why. if there's anything to blame, i'll blame the cheese powder

Nightmare and Sweet Dream: Matriculation and School Academic Award

Part One: Nightmare : Matriculation

tick tock tick tock tick tock. the clock is ticking away. finally it was 12 pm. means that we can go to www.moe.gov.my to check if we get excepted for matriculation or not. too bad the link was not up yet *curse* so i continued chatting and sharing the suspend and agony and torture and nightmare with dear bel and raymond. should we check or not? aiya.. takut laaaa!
then raymond goes: YES! sia dapat! or something like that.
then bel goes: thank god!
then i go: mana kamu check nie??? sia tia nampak link punnnnnn =(
and to my horror it took ages to load the page. think moe web page almost crash or something. haha. and finally i key in my ic number, close my eyes, and hit ENTER. open my eyes and TAHNIAH. that was the only word i saw and registered in my head, i didnt bother to read the rest haha. and thus, my nightmare has ended.
conclusion: i got excepted to Labuan Matriculation College, 1 year program. now i'm thinking should i take living science or physical science? anyone care to drop ur opinion?


Part Two: Sweet Dream: School Award Ceremony.
i reached the dewan kebudayaan, where it was held at about 8.10am. well, we are malaysian, so dont care about punctuality. although MY invitation was 8.00 am, i didnt bother to be punctual, coz passed experience told me not to do so.

anyway, it was great, meeting old friends, old teachers, new teachers (not that i bother to talk to them.. segan bah) i THINK we were very noisy, but no one even bother to shut us up. frankly speaking, i didnt bother to hear the speeches. though it seems to be 'quite interesting'. well at least the part that i over heard were interesting enough. nothing really much happened la, everyone were busy with camera, busy updating each other about each other's ups and down, busy sms-ing to check if they got matrics, in short everyone were busy in their own world.

halfway through the ceremony, i went to the washroom and ran into jason's mum. she was at the mirror, looked up and saw me.
and i went hi aunty!
and she went hi yvonne *shut the water tap and turned around*
so i held out my hand (without realising) expecting to shake her hand. and guess what i got from her? something about cant-just-shake-hand,-must-hug. lol. before i went home, i saw her again, said good bye and got another *hug* well, what can i say? she have always treated me like a daughter for the past at least SIX years. so that explains the old rumours between me and jason. haha.

anyway, i personally think that the interesting part was when it was our turn to take the award.
when cg jenn was smiling widely at me, and i simply dont know what to say.
when pengetua was ON the stage, mouthing something at.. i dont know who (she seems to be looking at me, but i think i'm imagining things)..
when cg claris asked me stop at one yellow line and then 'run' to another yellow line with my heels
when tan sri asked me some things for so long until people asked me what happened. pengetua and him with their *shocked* face. cant blame them.
when i walked down the stage, speechless.
and when cg jimmy said : yvonne! *looks and points at my heels* jaga patah!

oh, btw, the form 5 guys performance was cool!~ love it =]

p/s: dont ask me how much $$ i get. and no, i'm not gonna spend it, its going straight to my saving acc.

Drop By In School

yesterday i went to school to get the school mag and some sijil, but it turned out that 1. cg richard LOST my name, so he didn't prepare my sijil PEKA and 2. cg seri forgot to follow up another sijil for us. so i only managed to get the school mag.

and the thing that i anticipated will happen, happened! well, you see, i have no choice but to meet cg flavia in the staff room to get the school mag. and that was when and where my horror nightmare began. she asked me if i'll be attending the hari anugerah on friday, which i say yes (after yada2 to my mum coz the school didnt bother to contact us, not until i finished yadayada. pity my mum) anyway, then she said MUST wear formal ah! and i told her i have no formal outfit. and we argued and argued. lol, it's yvonne after all. asked me to wear baju kurung. teacher, the only baju kurung i have, is baju sekolah >.< asked me to buy in donggongon (okay???) . asked my to buy in city mall (sounds wayyy better). asked me to wear skirt. aiyo, teacher my skirt very short.. dont think it's appropriate la.. *sigh*


oh by the way, the block form 4 that looks like a chinese temple with all the reddish family tone have some touching up done. the pillar is now PINK. can you imagine that? suprisingly it looked good. BUT funny lol.

the bangunan pentadbiran is still the same old pinkyreddish, the colour of my camp. sheesh. but the staff room have new curtain. BLUE. nice. but it 'shocked' my eyes. i had to squint my eyes for a few secs to get used to the staff room.

then i went to KUM and i noticed the PUM is painted with new.. murals? is that the word? but i didnt bother to have a good look or take any pics.. coz wel, too many students. but i noticed that now more students ponteng kelas and go lepak2 la.. sheesh, didnt happened during our time. we were such good students oh!

and guess who i met in KUM? cg tita. yes. the one with BIG specs. the one who taught us science in form 1. who was bias. hahaha.. gagal pun boleh dapat credit! the one who loves to give quiz and the one who yada yada alot. she's replacing one of the teachers for the time being. i must say she's a great teacher, coming back after few years of retirement. i bet she's like60+ now! and i was surprise! really! she actually remembered my name. i was like impressed. " i remember my good students" she said. lol, i almost laugh. me? good student? hahahaha!!

anyway, i have to go prepare early dinner now. going out tonite to get the *curse^^* baju formal.

well, today will be a normal post. nothing special. i'm currently working on three topics. which are ms chua, kebajikan and i miss high school. but i'm stuck coz i have no pics to post. all my pics are in my sister's external, which is with her in sandakan *sigh*

well, actually nothing intersting happened this few weeks. i spent 2 weeks watching it started with a kiss (excluding this week). didnt watch any movie this week, currently downloading coffee prince.

so much so for working hard in academic, kokum and plkn.

3. i made up my mind, i want to go matrics. so i wont be sending in my yayasan sabah and kerajaan negeri scholarship application forms.

4. i finally figured out the rubiks.

5.i GAINED weight! no. let me rephrase: i gained weight, kilos, pounds, mass, inches, cms and fats!! i'm happy to gain weight, but not the fats =(

6. i went to my sister's place in sandakan.

7. i found out that cg theresa read my post about her (kani will have to take the blame).
that gave me a heart attack!

8. i finished reading 2 novels by david baldacci. stone cold and absolute power.

10. i've been eating a LOT of bread and cereal

it's 2.13 am. i cant sleep. i dont want to sleep. today will be the last night i'll be using the net up this late, before the torture(ahem) begins.

i will be leaving for PLKN/NS tomorrow, 27th dec. i dont know when will i be back for CNY. anyway, today (as in 25 dec, since i havent go to bed yet), i had lots of mixed feelings.

a) HAPPY
coz went for dinner at le meredian. so full! buffet ma! and of coz, it's christmas!!! and someone messaged me =]

b) SAD
coz my new found friend not going to NS, coz she has asthma. and also, i miss my school friends so damn hell much!
coz gonna be in NS for 3 months, dont worry, i'll be back for CNY.

c)LONGING and MISSING
i miss korea so damn much! really! i was going through mcarnessa and nigel's photo in friendster, their trip to korea, and it brought back all the memories!!
